The Beautiful woman

One of my favorite indulgences is accessories. I constantly worry about what bracelet suits my dress the most. And if I come across some accessory with bells in it, my self-control runs out of the shop. But even after buying so many earrings and bracelets, I still felt unsatisfactory…until I came to the feet of the Lord. There, I found what I was seeking. I found contentment and happiness finally. It took me a long time to understand that the beauty of a woman does not lie in her appearance but in her spirit. The morals and truth she carries in her spirits is what defines her.

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and wearing the gold jewellery and fine clothes. Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.”     ~1 Peter 3:3, 4

Instead of trying to paint our faces and hiding under layers of pancaked makeup, can’t we instead work on our hearts?  As a woman, it is important for us to learn humility because many of us constantly voice bad opinions about our colleagues’ dresses and hair color. Think of it, how many times have we bad mouthed about that girl in our office who wears neon colored dresses? Or about the receptionist who covers herself up like an old lady? Such an attitude blemishes our own character.

We all are guilty of doing various things just for that attention from the opposite sex. But what we forget is that beauty fades overtime and all that remains constant is your spirit. Our attitude and character doesn’t wrinkle with age like our skin. And my question is, what are we doing to beautify our spirits?

Are you short-tempered? Are you still blaming everyone else for your faults? Do you still curse that girl from the department store for selling you that cheap eyeliner you use every day? None of that will gain you anything good. The true beauty of a woman lies in her spirit. The spirit with which she becomes gentle and loving. The spirit which gives her confidence, not arrogance. The spirit which only the Father can give you. And that is what we should be actually working on.

Once I asked a couple of guys I knew well, “What do you look for in a girl if you want to marry her?” Their reply was, “Apart from the looks, we want her to possess a good heart. We want to find beauty in hearts more than what we find in faces.”

And even though a lot of us know this, we still choose to worry about our pimples more than our hearts.  It is time that we as women, learn to fear the Lord more than our bad hair days.

Let us now throw off that hatred we carried so long. Let us throw off all those selfishness, pride, insecurities we were shouldering all the while. Most importantly, let us stop seeking what is temporary and start seeking what is eternal.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised”   ~Proverbs 31: 30
